Predictions: NHL 2008 season

Another NHL season about to kick off. What twists and turns will await us this season? Which teams will dissapoint, and which teams will come out of no where to look successful? What player will go above and beyond and which will dissapoint?

Anaheim, the stanley cup champions of 2007, i would deffinitly say that they have a chance in getting back to back stanley cups. they still have a great team. they, ve still got that solid defence and still have the players to score goals. however, selanne is getting old and an injury to getzlaf or mcdonald and they may have some scoring troubles on their hands.

Buffalo, if i recall the best team in the league last year, had quite the winning streak at the start of their season. The sabres wont be so fortunate this year. with the loss of briere and drury, who contributed to a whopping 164 points, the team just wont be the same. unless vanek and pominville can step up, this team is going to drop like a brick.

Colorado, my pick to bethe best team in the league, joe sakic, brunette, statsny, hejduk, their four players with the most points last season staying with the club, with the addition of ryan smyth and a pretty tight defence, colorado have a golden shot at making this a huge season, the only thing is, will budai or theodore step up to take a #1 goalie place? if so, then this team is a dream team.

New Jersey, The devils, usually one of the teams always near the top, usually a solid team. this year i think otherwise. New jersey have always relied on their defending, and im not sure they have a good enough defence for that anymore. with rafalski gone, unless brodeur becomes a goalie from the matrix, new jersey are gonna be scored on a lot. with their top player only getting 69 points last season, the offence will have to step it up to make up for this defence.

Atlanta, the team wiith what i think has the best first line, hossa kovalychuk and kozlov, can deffinitly come from the shadows as a great team this year. all they need is for a couple players to step up their game and they will be on fire. a bit better goaltending wouldnt hurt, hedberg not being the best goalie around.

Edmonton, last year after they lost their inspirational captain ryan smyth this team just went down the gutter. with the next player barely breaking the 50 point mark, canthis team pull something off. I thought not, but look at the pre season. 5 wins 1 loss. Of course pre season is not always how the season itself will turn out, but is the maybe a miracle brewing in edmonton? i dont think they will pull it off, i think theyll crumble right at the start of the season, but if the have a very good start and ride the momentum, this team has some under rated players that can bring them to the top.

San Jose, always a very strong team, deffinitly again have a chance at winning the stanley cup season. theyll be one of the top teams in the league, and they more then enough good players to do so. they just need to stay calm, play their game, and theyll have another fantastic season.

Pittsberg, couple seasons ago they were the worst team, then came 2 youngsters, sidney crosby and evgeny malkin. these 2 young kids have picked up the spirit in this team. impressivly making it to the playoffs last season, theyll want to push for a little more this season. mark recchi, gonchar whitney, still pletnty of good talent on the team, and another newby jordan staal with 42 points this season is ready to impress. pittsberg have the youth players they need for the future, but will they be good enough to accompliosh something in the present?

a thrilling season awaits us
