I remember Dan Rather when he was a investigative reporter back during the Vietnam war. People depended on his reports to be accurate and informative . He was good at what he did . To include his name in the same sentence with Walter Cronkite , a long standing icon with CBS is in bad taste . Dan Rather was never the CBS anchor Cronkite was in his day .
We are talking about interviews that happened over three years ago , now lawsuits are flying . Where does it end , so Bush had a posh National Guard Career , so Bush was a member of secret societies , so Bush was involved in the oil industry , I do not think the American people would be surprised , of any new news about the President Bush .
These law suites and counter claims are a statement by Dan Rather to protect the freedom of the press rights . If it lines his pockets with money , CBS will take the hit to protect their interest local and abroad . I would think Dan Rather would be thinking a long these lines , even with all the infringing on out Constitution as of late . Freedom of speech , the right to bear arms, freedom of religion ,and now freedom of the press are about to be attacked . All these rights and more have been hammered since the attacks of 911 and before .
We as American citizens should have a say , as to the charges that are being made by Dan Rather . From what I gathered from the interview with Larry King the other night , It seems that in his old age , Rather , has either become a true patriot , or a extreme opportunist . Lets hope and pray he does the right thing . In the words of Walter Cronkite ," Thats the way it is".
