You want to make money, that is why you are opening your eBay store. So you need to consider two things: (1) Does eBay have a good affiliate program and what are the up to date results (2) What product has the most saleability value and how will you specialize in this procuct?

The best way to check out eBay, is to search the web for forums and comments that have been placed about the success of the eBbay stores. Try to find out how much money you will make from this project. Is this the sort of money you were hoping to make? If this company is not for you and does not seem to live up to it's sales pitch, then it is probably best to move onto an alternative, before you have wasted the time and effort to build your store.

When you decide that eBay is for you, think carefully about the product and sales area that you will specialize in. You need to focus on a certain part of the general public who will spend a lot of money on the products you have to offer. Remember 'specialized' is the keyword. Do not even think of building a store which sells every kind of product withing eBay. You are aiming at a certain audience, because Joe Bloggs can go to eBay himself and buy directly from them, instead of you!

If you are considering selling books, then think about which author is the most popular. Children's books generally have a higher turnover. So consider if you would like to cover the school curriculum or want to open a shop based on Harry Potter. I am mentioning JK Rowlings books because I assume that you will think these are the most popular children's books at the moment. You would be wrong, it is actually C.S Lewis's books which have the highest sales value of 2007.

Following this line of sale, a good idea may be to think of opening a children's store based on the books of C.s Lewis. Use widgets and features that will make it fun for the children, but also accessible to adults. At the end of the day they have the money and all adults love children's books anyway!

In conclusion, before opening your ebay store, do your research. Think about what is of value on the market and what is popular in 2007 and not what was popular a few years ago. Research eBay... This is so important!
