Swinging is not the free-for-all orgy everyone outside the "lifestyle" thinks it is. There are some very strict and some not so strict rules.
A very strict rule is "what happens at functions stays at functions". I know this sounds like a clich, but not everyone wants people to know they are swingers. You need to remember that a group can consist of everyone from janitors to police officers to professionals to teachers and they all expect and give absolute discretion. Break this rule and you will be blacklisted in a hurry.
Another very strict rule is "NO means NO". You may like to think that the person you approach is playing hard to get, but at any swinger function that attitude is sure to get you removed and barred from future functions. Remember, people usually aren't there to be coy and unless you absolutely know without a doubt that the person wants you to continue, STOP immediately and move on. A person can also say "NO" at any time and it must be accepted with respect, no matter how frustrating.
Do not touch without asking. The woman may have flashed a breast, or a person may be dressed skimpily, but don't consider it an invite unless you ask permission or once again you absolutely know without a doubt that the person won't mind you to touch. Same goes for bum grabs or any other physical contact. Ignore this and once again you will be rejected and ejected very quickly.
Swinger functions usually are of two types, on-premise and off-premise. On-premise is usually held at a club owned facility or member's home and may allow more physical interaction (i.e. penetration). Off-premise functions are held at rented locations that allow privacy but since they are not club owned usually interaction is limited to petting, some nudity and other "foreplay" type actions. usually no penetration is allowed at off-premise functions. Be sure you know what the rules are before you cross the line and get removed.
Single men usually have to be signed in by a member couple. Most clubs will only allow couples and single women to be members. If a member couple separates, then usually they are no longer considered members and must re-apply as individuals as a couple with a new partner.
It is a major faux pa for a single man to bring a woman just to get access to functions. This will get you barred from most clubs.
Be sure to set down guidelines you and your partner agree to before becoming involved in swinging. A few examples would be:
You both must remain in the same room,
