Not looking after your colon can eventually lead to you needing a colostomy bag. I don't know about in other countries but here in wales no provisions are made for men who need to change their "bag" when out leading otherwise "normal" lives. Imagine the embarrassment felt by them. In public toilets the ladies ALWAYS have sealed containers in which to place sanitary towels,colostomy bags, nappies or any other item which needs to be disposed of safely and discreetly. So, women have fought for years for equality between the sexes. Maybe it's time for the male of our species to play catch-up!
My husband was unfortunately diagnosed as having Diverticulitis about 3-4 years ago which resulted in him requiring a colostomy bag. He had difficulty adapting to this new lifestyle as he found it hard to confide in people he didn't know. This problem was made far worse by the lack of facilities as I have already described.2 years of having a "bag" and made to feel he couldn't go out anywhere for long in case he needed to change it,was enough for him. He has recently under gone another major operation to have a reversal. This seems to have been successful so far which now means no more "bag" and no more embarrassment for him.
