What to know about replacing your old windows

The house that my husband and I had bought to renovate was fitted with aluminium windows. These were totally wrong for the style of house, and we decided to replace them with solid wooden sash style windows that would enhance the design of our house.
My do-it-yourself husband took charge of the job at hand.
He went to his tool shed and came back with -
Carpenter's apron containing a screwdriver, hammer, tape measure, and batten screws

Pinch bar
Heavy duty drill
Circular Saw
Wood Plane
Hand saw
No More Gaps Silicone

First of all, he removed the old aluminium window using the pinch bar, being careful not to break the glass.

He made sure that the opening was clean, and no wood rot was present. He checked the lintel was in good condition and strong enough to support the wall above the window.

He measured the space with his tape measure to make sure that the new window was the correct size to fit snugly.

He used his wood plane to trim the wooden window slightly to fit.

He then called me to help him support the window while he drilled and screwed it in securely with batten screws.

He used the silicone to seal any gaps, and then he ran a bead of timber around the edge of the window to finish it off.

After sealing the timber with a good quality timber finish and allowing it to dry overnight, he attached the brass catches, handles and locks for a perfect finish.

What a brilliant home handyman my husband is!
