Selecting your major in college

Choosing a major in college is usually not too difficult to decide. Most people choose a major which is in line with their interests, and is generally is consistent with their chosen career path. For others though, this selection process may be less than obvious, and often students are undecided due to conflicts of various kinds. For example mom or dad may have a strong influence on the student, and it may be that the student is receiving advice at home which is contrary to their natural instincts regarding choice of major. Friends can also have a strong influence on the choice of major, especially friends who we are strongly attracted to. To be successful though, the selection should be based on subjects which are interesting and for which the student has a natural aptitude. I was personally never too good at math, so the pathway I selected was a more biologic one which minimized my contact with this subject. Mathematics has survived as a subject with little input from me, and I can still get by in life with my limited knowledge of the subject. Overall the selection of a major should be the one which you feel will provide you with the information and knowledge which you most need, and which will be most beneficial to you.
