The whole situation with O.J. Simpson is a tragedy. The fact that one man can attract this much attention for an utter catastrophic event is crazy.
Taking his previous court/soap-opera ordeal out of the equation, the charges will stand on their own this time. It is a shame that the American public is so atttached to this story. Everyone wants justice, but really, will that change anything?
It seems that O.J. wants to go to jail. There is no way of knowing what is in his mind; but, if actions speak louder than words, then punishment and admonishment look to be his motive. By even suggesting that a book be released detailing how the murders of his ex-wife, Nicole, and Ron Goldman WOULD have occurred IF he had done it, he appears to want scorn and hatred thrown in his direction. And booze, or no booze, set up, or no set up, he was caught threatening another human being with a gun.
It is no matter whether he was the only one involved. He knows that the public was ready to "throw the book at him" if he even breathed in more air than was typically allowed. He went way beyond that.
The real tragedy will be if he really is innocent of Nicole's and Ron's murders. Since there were no witnesses, only O.J. really knows what happened. If he is inncoent and there is no way to convince most of the population that he is, what a terrible thing to live with. But, if he is guilty of murdering his children's mother, that is even a worse mental image to live with. Day in and day out he would be forced to relive the incident over and over. Only he knows the truth.
It is hard to say whether O.J. keeps himself in the media forefront or if he is just constantly hounded. Does he like that attention or is he forced to just deal with it? And, the only reason that he does stay in the spotlight is because we continue to follow his moves like hawks. We don't allow ourselves to just turn the channel.
Most of the country (if not the world) knows about O.J.'s recent arrest and has an opinion. Why can't we just be unconcerned? Is it hard-core revenge or is it justice that we seek?
Either way, it looks like jail time is in the cards after all for Mr. Simpson, but maybe that is what he was after. Crime is always punished. Maybe not right away, but in the end, we all pay for our wrong doings.
His were just a little more wrong than most of the rest of the world.
