I started my career when I was two years out of high school. I wanted to go to college, but I couldn't for family reasons. I worked all
through high school. I kept the job I had while I plugged my application at a local company where I was fortunate enough to have
two brothers working there already. The employer like the way my brothers worked and figured they would hire me on too. It was a long shot with out a college education, but the employer was impressed with me and gave me a chance.
Once I was hired on with this company, hard work and multitasking different jobs were a must. It was hard work and you never knew what job you were going to be doing for that shift. I have to commend my company and the management because they believed in me and not because of a college education. Though hard work is a good ethic to have, people should not stop their quest for getting a higher education. I had to eventually take college courses all through my career afterwards and for good reason. Technology waits on no one to catch up and if you do not have the skills to stay updated on changes to a job, you could very well be left behind.
I always thought it was my education was enough. I found out later that taking those college courses were essential to keep me on top the learning curve for my job. I made close to 85,000 dollars a year with a standard education with only a high school diploma and by hard work and staying up to date through education by the corporation I worked for. They helped me stay on course and focus through out my career. I took four or five courses through the company. I was fortunate! I had a good work ethic and drive to become a better intelligent worker through the years. Continuing education is something that never ends and everyone is constantly going back to school to stay updated about their jobs.
The only place education hurt me was the upper management jobs. A degree is a must to get the highest paying jobs. Experience does little when you are up against others with associates degrees and Business management degrees etc. You can have all the experience in the world but if you do not have a diploma, you are limited in getting the higher paying jobs. This is the trend fro modern technology today and many young people realize this and are fortunate enough to have parents that realize this too.
If you are comfortable doing your present job with out seeking higher education you can do so and be successful at it. The choice of doing
