The Last Fairy
The fairy who lives in the lavender field
has no other fairies around.
They all moved away when the big folk moved in
And tore ugly holes in the ground.
The marigold fairy had basked in the sun
til tall walls cast her blossoms in shade.
And Danette tended daffodils better than none
Now huge wheels roll over her glade.
So the lavender fairy just talks to the birds
and she wonders how long it will be
til the growling wheeled dragons will silence their words
and she too will vanish or flee.
