Immigration: The Injustice Of United Kingdom New HSMP Policies

by cameo

The UK Government's response to the public's concerns over mass immigration in recent years is to introduce the Highly Skilled Migrants Programme. The HSMP will assess potential immigrants and award them points based on the skills they possess. Parliament or the Government will set a points threshold each year and those migrants whose points total meets the threshold will be allowed in.

The system is unfair an unjust, not because it places restrictions on migration, but because it only applies those restrictions to those coming to the UK from outside the European Union. The UK Government cannot prevent EU citizens coming to the UK because of EU law, despite the accession of eastern European countries to the EU being the primary source of mass migration to the UK in recent years.

The HSMP is simply discrimination on grounds of nationality, which the Government would call racism if proposed by other political parties, and yet they have introduced precisely that very system. A fair and just system would be one which treats all foreigners equally, and which uses the same criteria for assessment, but unfortunately the HSMP is discriminatory and inadequate and unfair to those people outside the EU.

Immigration controls are not unfair and unjust, but controls which favour some people over others are unfair and unjust and should be opposed.
