If you've ever been disappointed by diminishing results from your workout routine and wondered how to keep from hitting the plateau when it comes to your fitness, then relax, you're not alone. Most people who work out regularly, especially if they haven't been working out consistently before, will reach a point when the pounds aren't falling off quite as quickly or the muscle isn't growing quite as noticeably.
The important thing to remember is not to get frustrated and stop working out. This is a natural reaction from your body as it adapts to changing conditions. Although there isn't a sure-fire way to keep results from slowing over time, this should be viewed as a positive sign that you have less distance to cover to reach your target. The best way to fight muscle memory and diminishing results is to keep your workouts constantly changing. Some might call this cross-training, as you alternate from cardio-vascular training to strength and conditioning training. This alternating and slightly varying workouts, helps keep your body from viewing your workouts as a routine that it can adjust to. As long as intensity continues to increase and workouts vary in length and impact, you should find results will continue to show consistently.
