Can the government use tax issues to force churches to accept gays? The government has a provision for the separation of church and state. The government cannot by law dictate to churches in the United States who they can accept for membership and who they can deny membership to. Decisions regarding membership are based on religious beliefs and there for should not be subject to interference by the government especially using tax issues.
The government refuses to allow financial assistance to parochial schools of any religion in the country based on the separation of church and state provision in the constitution. How then can the U.S. legally interfere with or even suggest to churches of any religion who should be allowed to become members and who should not?
Church members of any religion would agree that no church should be subjected to such regulation or authority by the individual states or the federal government in matters of religious beliefs, worship or membership.
Churches and their memberships are not financially supported by any government agency. The government cannot offer tax breaks to churches legally to ensure they allow gays to join their congregations.
The allowance of gays into churches is a religious matter not a legal matter.Only members of the particular religious groups, church leaders and church members should be able to change church doctrine and beliefs regarding the allowance of homosexuals to join any congregation, synagogue or mosque. Christians, for instance should be able to be able to bring up,vote for or against and advocate who and what they would allow as members in a Christian church. This would be the same for Muslims and Jews or any religion. The government doesn't belong in the loop. We are guaranteed that by our rights as American citizens and the constitution.
