Poetry: Soul Mates

In the uncertainty of morning I awake
fearful it was all just a delightful dream -
that it might have been a figment of my imagination,
or something that is less than it seems.

My thoughts immediately turn to you,
butterflies fill my stomach and I sigh.
A smile paints itself across the canvas of my face,
a twinkle of delight shines brightly in my eyes.

I remember holding your hand in mine,

grasping it firmly, not wanting to release.
Resting my head on your broad shoulder,
I was filled with a calm, innermost peace.

Your lips casually formed into a gentle smile,
and spoke words teeming with tender truths.
Giggles and grins bubbled out of their confinement,
making me travel back to the years of my youth.

Overwhelmed with emotional joy,
a tear slips secretly down my cheek.
You place your hand upon the imposter,
your affectionate touch making me weak.

I've never felt such a high of happiness,
it's calmly consuming my heart.
I'm scared to even allow the suggestive thoughts
of the chance of us falling apart.

Prayers have been sent up to God above,
pleading for Him to provide my prince.
I never thought He would answer so perfectly,
and I've fallen head-over-heels ever since.

Interlock your fingers with mine,
and never loosen your grasp.
Embrace me close to your heart,
and in your hand, my heart you'll clasp.
