There are quite a few benefits of having breakfast for dinner. Not only is breakfast generally an easier meal to fix, it is usually more cost-effective. Depending upon what you fix, breakfast for dinner can be even more healthy than a normal dinner. Not only is breakfast more kid friendly, it is one of the meals that can involve fruit without being a dessert.
Making breakfast for dinner can differ from household to household. It would also need to be altered to cater to the tastes of who is being fed. If you are feeding small children, for example, You may want to stick to the basics. Maybe have pancakes, scrambled eggs, bacon or sausage and fresh fruit, milk and juice. This is quick, easy and tasty. It even covers the four food groups - meat, dairy, bread and fruit.
If you are feeding older children or young adults breakfast for dinner, you might want to be a little more adventurous. Eggs - any style - are usually a hit, especially if you include omelets. For meats, offer a choice if possible. Sausage, bacon, ham or scrapple are favorites. Instead of or in addition to pancakes, offer muffins, biscuits or waffles. I'm sure everyone will find something they like. Stick with fresh fruit but make fruit cocktail or serve it with cottage cheese. For this group, I would offer fruit as well as vegetable juice along with milk. Again, this is healthy as well as easy.
If you are only serving adults, breakfast for dinner can be really dramatic. You may want to serve a prepared egg dish instead of plain eggs. Make a quiche or a fritata. If you are feeling really adventurous, try a souffle. It will really impress guests. For the meats, try corned beef hash, chipped beef with gravy or even Italian sausage with gravy. If you have the time or inclination, some adults like steak or salmon at breakfast, but, you don't need to spare that expense if you don't want to. Bread is another variable. Some sort of quick bread or loaf is in order, maybe banana-nut or pumpkin-raisin. Keep biscuits or rolls available in case your meal mates don't like sweet breads. Instead of fruit cocktail, you may want to serve fruits soaked in champagne or brandy. It is dinner-time, after all. And why not offer a light cocktail or some sort of drink that has milk in it?
There, you have the benefits of breakfast for dinner. It is an easy meal, it is a healthy meal and it can be altered to accommodate the tastes of whomever you are feeding. If you have any imagination, breakfast for dinner can also be a fun meal.
