Live longer and better
Growing old without pain is the goal of every human. However, if we want to increase our longevity and life quality, there are a few things to know. Why do we die early and can we prevent it?
In 2004, there were 2.4 million deaths in the USA. The top 4 causes account for 1.5 million of these deaths. These are heart disease (654,000), cancer (550,270), brain strokes (150,146) and emphysema/COPD (123,884).
Daily choices we make can predispose us to a premature death. Fortunately, by becoming more aware of the causes, we can make changes.
First, stop smoking! 500,000 deaths result yearly from this yearly as they cause of heart attacks, strokes, lung cancer and COPD. See your doctor about new smoking cessation options. A 1 pack per day habit can cost up to $2000/yr while taking 7-10 years off your life.
Second, 30 minutes of moderate exercise, 5 days a week can help prevent heart disease and cancer. Speak to your doctor before starting a new routine.
Third, eat more fruits and vegetables, avoid trans fats and high fructose corn syrup. The Center for Diseases Control (CDC) estimates that poor diet and inactivity are responsible for almost 350,000 deaths annually.
Overall, the CDC estimates that 33% of all deaths are due to tobacco, lack of exercise and poor diet. Make the changes today and you will live longer and better.
