In the modern world beauty is a concept which people mostly adapt from media and advertisements. Advertisements portrayed women as "sex object" and "unhealthy". Many of you are women, or have sisters, wives, daughters to think about as how they are portrayed in the society. As of this summer semester I am taking a women studies course, which has helped to understand all these perspectives and also I have done research on it. In today's talk I will discuss the issue how women are considered to be sex object, how its effects our society and what should we do about it.

The mass media have long been criticized for presenting unrealistic appearance ideals that contribute to the development of negative body image for many women and girls.
According to USA Today a report was realized which, included a variety of media, looked at advertising showing body-baring doll clothes for pre-schoolers, teens posing in suggestive ways in magazines and the sexual antics of young celebrity role models. The researchers found such images may make girls think of and treat their own bodies as sexual objects.
In 1980, researchers from the United Nations Educational, Scientific and Cultural Organization suggested that repeated exposure to sexist ads is a contributing cause to havoc in society and many social problems, including such behavior as violence against women and sexual harassment to eating disorders.
Now, that I have told you about women's as "sex object" let's talk about "Thin Ideal" of women.
As the "stick thin" models are getting lighter in weight, people are getting heavier. This is causing eating disorders in the fact to become like them.
According to the article "depicting Women as Sex Objects in Television Advertising today" today in America, a woman that wears a size 3 or 5 dress seems to have the ideal figure, but do most people realize that the most famous sex symbol of all time, Marilyn Monroe wore a size 14.
According to, mamashealth, the most common health disorder is, Anorexia, an eating disorder where people starve themselves. Anorexia usually begins in young people around the onset of puberty. Individuals suffering from anorexia have extreme weight loss. Weight loss is usually 15% below the person's normal body weight. People suffering from anorexia are very skinny but are convinced that they are overweight.

Now that I have told you about how advertisement portrayed women as "sex object" and how it affects women's body, let's talk about how to improve it.
