If you have only one computer, should you choose a desktop or a laptop? I have both a desktop and a laptop but if I could only have one I would choose the laptop mainly because of its portability. The desktop would other wise win simply on its virtues of power, size and expense.
In todays world a computer is necessary for school, business and just plain keeping in touch with the outside world. It is possible to connect to the Internet through the use of dial up or broadband access almost anywhere in the world. Laptops have become indispensable to us as they can be easily transported on planes,to vacation destinations and taken to restaurants.
Nearly all of the major airports in the United States have free hot spots(places where you can connect to the Internet). A computer user need only to invest in a broadband access wireless card to take advantage of this. Hotels and resorts are now offering free broadband access to the Internet as part of their inclusive packages. Lap tops also are welcome in libraries, parks and even bars.
Desktops are great in that they are usually less expensive than lap tops, have larger hard drives for the money and are more powerful but unfortunately, it is nearly impossible to take it with you. It obvious you'll never fit your desktop under your seat on your flight to Dallas. If you were on a business trip or on a vacation you could not complete business transactions or correspond via e-mail to family and friends.
Lap tops make better all around computers than desktops. In a modern world with portable electronics and fast paced competitive business environments where any technology that gives you the edge over the competition reigns supreme. The lap top is royalty.
Lap tops can also have the ability to fax and print through the use of portable printers and scanners that can be purchased for use with them. Life in our modern day world doesn't get any better than that.
