Ask any new parent. From the moment they heard that first cry of life, they knew nothing would capture their heart more than their bundle of joy. But, long before baby comes home, long before sleepless nights and piles of tiny laundry that seem to generate themselves, new parents need to make their list, and check it twice.
1. The proper car seat - these days, many hospitals send new parents home with this essential. If they don't at your hospital, shop around before finding the seat you'll call your own. While styles and colors vary, the one constant for infant seats is that they need to be rear facing, and should be properly restrained in the back seat only.

2. High Chairs - you don't need these for several months, but the newest models have reclining seats that make them convenient even before baby can sit up. One of the best on the market, Fisher Price's Healthy Care High Chair. It has the adjustable seat, a safety harness, as well as seven height positions. The seat covering is easily removed and can be thrown in the wash ensuring better germ control. There is a towel bar in the back, a dishwasher-safe cup or jar holder on the side. The tray is removable, and can also fit in a standard dishwasher, so clean up is a breeze.
What more can you ask for? How about sturdiness that folds compactly for storage, and converts to a booster as baby grows. Still more - a great price that virtually any family can afford. All that makes me want one, and I'm not expecting.
3. Around town, baby needs to be comfortable, stylish and easy to maneuver for mom and dad. In review after review, Peg Perego strollers receive high marks for functionality, style, durability and added features. From adjustable handle bars, cup holders, extra storage, and convertible seating area for baby, these are the must have strollers! You'll pay a bit extra, but from all accounts, they are worth it.
5. Phillips DECT Baby Monitors bring listening in on baby into the new age. Gone are the crackling, interference noise from nearby phones or neighbors. It is compact, has many added features, and is portable.
6. PreMaxx New Edition Black Carrier. Carry baby in comfort, for both of you. It's design makes it easy to maintain eye contact and coo with baby. It's so comfortable, baby can sleep as you stay on the go.
7. The Logic Bag by JJ Cole. Where were these when my girls were babies. Easily slings across your back, holds about 5 diapers, wipes and a couple bottles. The front zipper pockets will conveniently stash your money, credit cards, keys, pacifier and more. Easy to clean, and very easy to use.
8. Prince Lionheart Ultimate Wipes Warmer. These aren't just for baby's comfort, though that is a nice benefit. But, just think of how a 2 a.m. changing can become a "Good morning, Mommy" if you wipe baby with an ice cold swath? And, lets not forget the reaction little boys can have to cold wipes. Save both of you some grief, buy a wipes warmer.
9. A comfortable rocking chair. There are many on the market that will fit the bill, but you'll want to select your favorite for late night feedings, afternoon relaxing, or early morning wake-up songs and stories.
10. Make bath time fun! This over-sized apron, the Bath 'n Wrap bathing apron and mitt, keeps you dry during the splish-splash of baby's bath. And, after bath time is over, you wrap baby in the the preheated bath towel, gently warmed by you! It even has a hood for babies head to ensure more warmth after the bath.
