My favorite blog on the internet right now is at theredwallstore.com.
It's just a really straight forward great blog that's written by a down to earth guy. The topics range from politics to sports to philosophy to home improvement. I don't think it has been around that long... or maybe some of the archives are just missing because there are only two in there, but I know there have been a lot more articles written.

Also, this website has a database of some really great ideas for almost anything. I was looking for some advice on decorating the interior of my house and found some awesome ideas on there. I think it's a really cool idea for a website. It's a got a daily blog, news, and great ideas for everything else. Also, I like wonkette.com.
It's an excellent political blog that has great insights and allows users to post their comments.

As far as pre-set blog sites I wouldn't recommend any. In order to really be successful you've got to go out and get your own domain name and set up your own everything. It just looks a lot more legitimate if you've got your own thing going. I mean, I bet you won't be able to find any sites on like, say, google's blogger site that would rank anywhere near the top blogs in the country. It's because real blog readers aren't interested. They consider these types of sites very amateurish.

You also won't be able to make as much money if you aren't getting enough traffic to your site. From the beginning you might get more people to your pre-made blog just because there's already a community of bloggers there, but if you want to tap into the mainstream market where the big bucks are you'll have to create your own domain with a legit web host and build up from there.
