called me into her office and abruptly fired me. She said that her boss had demanded my resignation. I was floored. Of course I could not believe this was happening. I feel like after our lunch, she had sobered up and realized that she had just divulged information to me that would cost her to loose her job. I think she thought that if she fired me, then anything that I might say would seem like retribution and no one would listen. To say the least I was livid when I left her office. All I could think was "Who does she think she is?". I went home and the next day I decided to start networking. I called some of the people that I knew at the home office and asked them if they knew of any job openings. No one even knew that my employment had been terminated. I thought this was strange. Well a few hours went by and my phone rang. It was the owners son and he told me that he had heard what happened. He also told me that his dad said I was to report back to work the next morning.
Now I told you all of this to tell you this.... I went in the next morning and no one was expecting me. My Supervisor had planned to work as the manager in that branch without telling anyone until she had found a replacement for me. I arrived second that morning and before she did. When she walked through the door, she looked at me with one of the funniest faces that I have ever seen. When she tried to talk, she could barely form the words to ask me what I was doing there. I told her "I was told to come back to work, and I guess since you did not feel the need to tell them I had been fired they didn't feel the need to tell you that I wasn't". A few minutes later three very well dressed gentlemen got out of a car in the parking lot and started towards the door. As they got closer I recognized them as the owner, his son, and the supervisor that was above mine. That day she lost her job. The next day she did not get a call telling her to report back to work.
We all know someone that has back stabbed their way up the ladder of success. I know at times when we work with people like this we get disheartened and wonder if we have to be like that to get ahead. Well we don't, and further more those that do will get what's coming to them. When you loose a co-worker that has done a good job and is thought of well in the company some will miss her. When you loose a boss that is cold hearted and hateful no one will care when she's gone.
