Best Tahoe resorts for young families

As if the altitude (6223 ft. above sea level) isn't enough to challenge your lungs, one glance at magnificent Lake Tahoe will leave you completely breathless! The sun shines an average of 274 days per year in this mountain paradise.

If you're traveling with your family, you cannot go wrong spending time at any of these resorts:

NORTH STAR AT TAHOE tops the list with activities for the whole family!

Choose from skiing terrain suitable for beginners to experts, flying down the mountain on an inner-tube or ice-skating. Adventure "Paw Parks" are built kid-size; even the jumps, bumps and secret hideaways. There is a play area where kids can kick off their skis and just play. Areas are patrolled by the ski-patrol and they are located just off main runs, so parents are never far away.

There are group ski and snowboarding lessons available for all ages. Licensed professionals are on hand to care for and entertain your kids ages 2-6 at Minors Camp; all day $99, half-day $79.

Daily lift ticket rates range from $71/full-day to $27. Reduced rates are available for half-day and multi-day tickets. Room rates range from $159/night, one-bedroom loft, to 6-bedroom mountain home for $1199/night.

SQUAW VALLEY RESORT, the site of the 1960 winter Olympics, will not leave you looking for things to do!

In addition to world-class downhill and cross-country skiing, take your pick from ice-skating, sledding, snowmobiling and indoor swimming. Lift ticket rates were only offered when figured in to package deals.

"Mountain Buddies" is a camp offered for children ages 4-12. Your youngsters will enjoy sledding, snow-shoeing, ice-skating and snow play. Full-day rate is $90/including lunch and half-day rate $50. Supervision is also provided in the evenings, in three-hour increments (just enough time for Mom and Dad to enjoy a romantic dinner) for $50-70, including dinner.

Squaw Valley offers many types of sleeping accommodations, from $120/night to well over $500/night for a fully furnished home.

*DIAMOND PEAK features terrains providing a great learning environment for beginners, as well as the challenging Solitude Canyon for the experts in your group.

They also offer a Child Ski Center, for kids ages 3-7 where your tykes will be given an ideal introduction to the sport.

Daily lift ticket prices range from $48/full-day to $18. Half-day lift tickets available at reduced costs. Enroll your family at the Snowboarding school; children 7-12 and Adults 13 and up are invited to join in the fun!

*While this resort does not offer sleeping accommodations, there are many hotels in the immediate area. (You may choose from Howard Johnson's, Super 8, or the Hyatt, to name a few.)

There are package deals available at all properties and reduced rates if you book early!
