The crucial years in a child's behavioral development

Having read the top 2 articles, I salute the Authors for their diligent research, but am choosing to try simplify this complex process, so more readers can perhaps apply some techniques, or at least get the gist of the theory. It is a given that a child's understanding/reaction to stimuli will be ingrained by 5 years old. This may sound unreasonable, or even silly but how a child will base their future life decisions are formed in these young years.

Not to say some (and many, sadly try), change these innate cognitive perceptions via Mental Health Professionals. So unconditional Love, Personal Boundaries, Values etc. are being taught by you when you may not even be aware of it. Infants and children are always watching, absorbing emotions. And their Psyche's are very malleable and subject to influence.

Pride and Self-Esteem must be tempered with sharing, and compassion. So that old saying, "Do as I say, not as I do", came from someone who needs work.

Genetic issues can be noticed by 6-8 months, and sooner of course if there is a physical aspect to condition. The rule of thumb for most, is the sooner diagnosed, the sooner treated, the better the results. This is true with things like Autism, Schizophrenia, although the latter is not usually observed until later teens to early 20's, and even later. A.D.D.H.D., Dyslexia etc. My point is no parent should accept that their child is "just slow" at getting things.

Attention and vigilance to your child's development is crucial, and will also create a wonderful open relationship where communication is rarely if ever an issue.
