The television show The Sopranos, helped open the eyes of its viewers to some aspect of the lifestyles of Italian-Americans and Italians. The television show was produced and written on the basis of entertainment. Not to say the perception of how Italians or Italian-Americans live a "mob family" life is correct or accurate.

The content of the television show may have affected some impressionable minds. It may have some strong content that was not appropriate or substantial to the Italian male. Some percentage of the show was positive and negative. However, such is the case in a vast majority of the television shows right now; Nip-tuck, Dexter, Real World, Jerry Springer.

If individuals have to base a people off a television show, all mankind is doomed. The same can be said of the image of African-Americans via rap hip-hop culture, Asian-Americans in martial arts films and the like.

The need to identify with Italian-Americans is this way was needed for purpose of entertainment and comedy even. Can we assume that foreigners consider all Americans to be selfless, power-crazed, obese, or gangsters compared to other nations in the world.

The Sopranos, portrayal of Italian-Americans only applies to a small percentage of Italians. Most are kind -hearted people. They believe in family values and morals, upholding honor, respecting the elderly. Unless you have experienced being apart of their culture how can you judge.

Whose has so much time as to criticize a show so seriously, which lasted all of what four or five seasons? The fans of the show loved it, while others despised its lack of integrity and truth.

Choose your battles, would you rather watch broadcasts of bad news everyday. You can speak openly about what you want to watch. Your only options are not limited to nothing but war, famine, disease or Wall Street finances.

There is freedom, when we allow all nationalities and racial prejudices to cease.
There is freedom when you allow everyone and anyone to speak his or her thoughts, while retaliating over nothing. Words are indeed only words, the offense becomes harmful only when we allow ourselves to be belittled.
