When you look at me
What do you see?
That I am black, my lips are fat,
My kinky hair thick like a mat,
Isn't that a bit out of place?
A Caucasian nose in a Negro face.
Why do you say, it really seems
I was liquefied then poured into my jeans.
What you see, when you look at me
Results from my rich and diverse ancestry.
The African black, English and Scottish white you see
Conspired and made a brown Barbadian like me.
So because of this my taste is diverse
In food, music and hymns, chapter and verse
Reggae and calypso I consider an art
But still I can appreciate Mozart.
So come on over, take a walk
Don't judge me before we talk
A good strong Caribbean woman you'll agree
That is who you will see
When you really know me.

When you look at me
I know you see things
No body else can see
It's all laid bare
To your thoughtful stare
When you look at me
I'm
I drove alone today on a silver highway,
in the fast lane, same old song on my mind.
New chapter to begin, new tale to tell,
I
What is it you see
As you glance over at me
Am I everything I wish to be
Lovely, wild, careless and free
Am I, to you, simply
by Maria Lucana
I wonder can you see when you look at me,
Can you see what lies within,
Or do you see only what you want to see,
Can you see
When you look at me, I wonder what you see?
What could it be that makes you look at me.
Is it the years worn that now swarm
