We recently came back from The Dominican Republic in August.. We left on the sat when hurricane Dean was coming thru.. We always travel to the Caribbean or Mexico in August or Sept.. In Mexico, its very hot and humid.. However, our 1st time to the Dominican was wonderful.. The average temp was about 100, but no humidity and always a nice breeze.. Its about 50% cheaper to travel in the summer, try it.. We stayed at the Sunscape Del Mar and was an excellent hotel.. So much to do right on the resort, as they say when you go to the Dom Rep, you should not leave the resort, just like Jamacia, but they had shopping about 5 minutes down the beach... They had many restaurants, go early or there is about a 2 hour wait.. They had a beach party one night where you could purchase 2 lobsters for $30, we did try that, the lobster was very disappointing, altho the free food was great.. They have a spa, gift shops, internet, $4 for 20 minutes.. Snorkelng was free, banana boat rides were $7 a person. There are many excursions you can take.. We took the Sonona Island one, you take a 2 hour ride on a Catamaran to the Island, the water is a turqoise blue, just beautiful.. When you arrive at the island, there is plenty of rum, all you can eat, drink, shopping, massages for $10.. You leave on a speedboat, they drop you off in the middle of the Ocean, you jump off the speed boat, water is waist high, and you are surrounded by starfish, stingrays, and are offered more rum/coke... You take the speed boat back, and I beleive they drop you off in a town called Eguay.. There you are just malled with poor people selling, cigars, cigs, little children wanting to wash your feet for $1, very poor town... all in all we will return, especially in teh summertime when the total vacation pkg is very inexpensive... Try it you will have a blast
