Is regular grade gasoline just as good as premium gas for your car?

It is not that one grade of gas is any better than another. It all depends on the vehicle you are driving. What is the difference between regular, midgrade, and premium? Octane, 87, 89 and 92 respectively. Your car is engineered to run well as long as the gasoline you put in it is the proper minimum octane. It's right in your owner's manual. My truck is an 03 Nissan Frontier, and as with most modern vehicles it is rated for a minimum octane of 87, the equivalent of regular gas. The performance model Frontier came with a factory installed supercharger, and hotter sparkplugs and requires gas with a minimum 92 octane or premium gas. Check your manual, chances are you're safe running regular gas in your car. Sportscars or enhanced performance vehicles generally require higher octane gas, but even then with readily available octane boosters on the market you can still get by with regular gas. Some people claim higher gas mileage, or that it burns cleaner, but this just isn't true. Octane is not related to power, but instead to preventing engine knock, and all gasoline has the same amount of engine cleaning detergent per government regulations. So yes, regular grade gas is just as good as premium for your car.
