Finding free legal services for low income families

When I got divorced in September of 2004 my husband who I am with now did my divorce
papers for me from a package that we got from the Internet. We did not have the money to spend on getting a lawyer and my ex husband said that he was going to make it uncontested where we would have no argument about what was agreed upon and everything was done in writing. The reason why I am writing you about this particular issue is because of several reasons. It is 2007 now almost 2008 and we are now living in Canada

not due to the divorce but because of lack of jobs in San Antonio. When we got the
divorce I kept the house for stability for my oldest daughter who has mild-moderate
C.P. and needed to have security for her. Her younger sister was 17 at the time of the divorce.By October my ex husband moves out of our house and into a near by apart-
ment.I get ownership of the house and i marry my husband in December of 2004.Yes, I
know this sounds complicated. you have not heard it all yet.My divorce clears in court by the way as uncontested on September 9th 2004.My oldest daughter the one with
C.P. finally gets accepted in a group home situation that we get her moved into before the end of May 2004.She was on a waiting list for this since 1998.she still lives there today with six other women and works at a vocational training place and is
very happy. My other daughter moves out in August to go off to school. Now the fun part begins. It is time to file 2004 taxes.I file separately because of the divorce. Before
we filed we went to H and R block and told them of our situation. My husband decides to take out their insurance policy in case they make a mistake. The man that originally did my taxes gave me everything for tax write offs and my ex husband could not claim anything.Well, guess what? My husband who always is late doing everything was always late when it came to tax time. When he found out I got everything he was furious and said Don't you think that I deserve sometjhing? So in order to keep him quiet we gave
him our youngest daughter who was 17 at the time of the divorce for claiming her as
a deduction.Long and behold this changes our tax status to where we owed money. So whatever we got back originally had to be repaid plus.Luckily,He paid that off for he was responsible for any taxes owed before we were able to put the house on the market.
In Texas they do not let you sell property if you owe the Government money. Then on top of that When I received the settlement from his retirement fund from where he
works the retirement fund took out what was owed on the taxes on the settlement prior
to when we originally did our taxes for 2004.Once again there is an amount of 5,000
plus dollars that he owes us being that he is responsible for any taxes that was due in 2004.In the divorce decree it states that he owes 100 percent of any taxes due for
2004.He owes us the 5,000 plus dollars that he did not pay off at the time the taxes
were done. This is what we are trying to claim from my ex husband. He thinks we owe him.
but we say it is in black and white that he owes it to us.When H and R block made the mistake they did not even admit to their mistake and did not pay us back for the insurance that we took out on this. They did tell us that my ex was responsible to pay
the difference. We also found out that H and R Block does not abide by the Cuurts decision.I always thought that the Court was the law of the land.Hopefully it will be.
And we will be able to solve this once in for all.
