Eating dog

Eating dog. Eating dog.... Now , that is a thought. A strange thought. A very strange thought, but one that I , myself, have entertained on numerous occasions.

Now don't get me wrong, I don't sit around all day trying to think of ways to prepare dog meat. I have just wondered what cooked dog meat looked like. I wondered what it would taste like. I also wondered if I HAVE eaten it without knowing. The latter is a rather disturbing thought, since it would lead some to believe that I eat anything even if I don't know what it is. That is not entirely true, but I have eaten some dishes which were delicious, but in which the meat was questionable.

Take, for example, some of those Chinese take-out places. I like alot of the dishes they sell. I especially like the ones that have a variety of meats in them such as chicken, pork, beef and shrimp. Whether these meats are mixed with noodles or rice, the combination of flavors are great. And the way they stir in the veggies and sauces just makes the dishes even more tasty. Now comes the hard part. Is the chicken really chicken? Is the beef, beef? What about these same meats in the brown sauce? Are they actually what they are supposed to be, or are we really getting dog meat? How can you tell?

I'm no chef and I certainly cannot prepare specialty dishes. I don't pretend to know what each cut of certain meats look like after they've been cooked, nor do I know every taste or consistency. I DO know that I have never prepared any chicken or beef that turned out to have the consistency that the chicken and beef in those Chinese take-out dishes have. I also have never eaten beef or chicken in any restaurant, other than Chinese, that have the same consistency. Taking this into consideration, maybe I have eaten dog meat. If that is the case, it isn't so bad.

Finally, I say again, I do wonder about dog meat. I don't suggest that people go out to try to buy it. I just wonder what cooked dog meat looks and tastes like. I also wonder if I should just stick to the shrimp dishes. At least I know what cooked shrimp looks and tastes like.
