DEALING WITH THE REALITY OF VIOLENCE -
FOR THOSE MARTIAL ARTISTS WHO ARE TOTALLY INEXPERIENCED AT BEING STREET FIGHTERS THEMSELVES
Me, and, my mum, were both living inside of a 7th floor council maisonette building; with both an upstairs, and, a downstairs; however, this particular day my mum had gone out to do some shopping; and, as it turned out, rather fortunately.
I had gone to sleep really late in the morning; after having stayed up much too long watching late night TV; therefore, I was still sleeping in bed in the afternoon at some time around 1 PM.
All of a sudden, I heard a noise of the letter box downstairs opening; quite naturally, I thought it must be the postman having dropped some mail in through our letterbox; so, I quickly got up and rather groggily started to rush downstairs; when I was only half way down the staircase I instantly stopped all of my rushing, and, totally halted; the sight that confronted me shocked me completely; there was a hand sticking itself straight through our letter box, with the fingers constantly wriggling around trying to stretch out and grab hold of the keys which -as was our usual practice at home- had been left still inside of the door!
Obviously, this person wanted to break into our home, and, steal our goods. One of the first thoughts that went through my head was, 'how dare they try doing this to me; after all, I've never tried doing such a thing to anybody else!'
The next thought that went through my mind was to very slowly and quietly slip downstairs, walking past the truly disgusting hand; and, then, off into the kitchen. Inside of the kitchen I opened the draw where I knew all of the kitchen knives were being kept; I quickly pulled one knife out in particular; the very same one I was used to doing martial arts training with. I would practice stabbing/slicing/cutting/chopp ing at purely imaginary opponents in the air. I then walked back to where the hand poking in through our letterbox was; and, whilst still holding the long sharp kitchen knife, I slowly raised my hand up high over the guys hand below; all the time thinking to myself, quite seriously, whether to chop off this persons hand, or, not?!
It was then that I found I had walked straight slap bang into an utterly invlsible, but, nontheless, solid brick wall; this wall wasn't on the outside of me...because, I knew I could do it, physically...; but, the wall was on the inside of me, instead...namely, I did NOT want to do it.
The more I stopped to think about what
