Poetry: Smoking

Puff away at that tobacco stick,
watch as stress fades away-
the neatest little trick
nearly five dollars will pay;

There is no addiction
like an addiction unaware
of the costly infliction
that politicians adhere;

Let it not be said-
in words unspoke,
the politics bread
in taxes we choke;

Just what should we fear?
Who should we trust?
Why should they care?
When we are all really dust.

Ashes to ashes,
the irony there
as it abashes
lives living here;

The same story in life
is as it is in death.
Forever in bitter strife
until our dying breath.

Free choice is ours, yours and mine;
Free will is ours, yours and mine;
Free speech is ours, yours and mine;
Life is life and that is fine,
but this cigarette is still mine.
