Garmin has set the bar for GPS navigation devices for many years, and the eTrex Vista continues their history of well-designed and well-made products. The Vista is a rugged portable GPS navigator that is well-suited for sportsmen (and women) who like the practical functionality and safety backup of a GPS navigation device.
The Vista sports an easy-to-read monochromes LCD screen that'll display a variety of different map views, as well as an electronic compass and elevation profiles. Navigation is accurate, thanks to position corrections enabled by the Wide Angle Augmentation System (WAAS). It's not unrealistic to expect positions to be accurate to within 9-10 feet when employing WAAS.
The eTrex Vista is light and compact, so it won't take up too much room in your pack, and runs on reliable and easy to find AA batteries. The Vista comes equipped with a basic North American, Atlantic, and Pacific basemaps, which provide basic mapping information, like roads, rail lines and coast lines. Marine navigation aids are also included. If you need more detail you can employ the 24 MB of extra memory storage to add additional information available from Garmin's web site.
Whether in the woods or on a boat; for trail-blazing and recording; or just as an extra measure of safety in your expeditions, the eTrex Vista will get the job done.
