Absolutely yes! Not even a maybe!

In learning what presently occurs to chickens in order for me to be able to eat one of my favorite meals, it was enough to make be want to become a vegetarian. It is likely that most people have no idea what actually occurs in a poultry factory.

In order to get a chicken ready for preparation to sale to the public, the following processes occur in an assembly line process:

1. The birds are shackled.
2. They are then hung upside down-consciously
3. An electric stun gun is used to paralyze the chickens (but the shock is not strong enough to cause them to become unconscious)
4. The birds are then cut with mechanical blades.
5. They are then drowned in scalding water.

The reason this knowledge is not popularly known is because the poultry houses know that this information would horrify Joe Public.

The Humane Society proposes that the chickens be exposed to carbon dioxide before being sent down the line. This would render the birds unconscious, allowing them to miss all the torturous excitement of the actual slaughter.

The original process earlier explained is used because of the cost-efficient power it yields. Almost 1000 chickens, per day, per poultry plant, can be slaughtered this way.

Even though the Humane Society and other animal rights activist groups campaigned to include chicken (and other poultry) in the Humane Slaughter Act in 2005, their request was denied by Congress.

So, it looks like we may have to put one of our own through the "chicken ringer" and see how much they like it-

I think THEN some laws may change.
