Sonic is what most people describe as a "classic". A great game, that's old as dirt and is addictive to play. The object of the Sonic games is to get to the end of the level by running as fast as you can while keeping enough control of your character to collect items (gems, gold rings, shields, extra lives etc) and avoid traps (spikes, bad-guys, etc). Every couple of levels or so there is a boss that you have to defeat.
That said, Sonic Rush is not much different from other sonic games. But that is not a bad thing. Sonic Rush manages to incorporate all the things about the original game(s) that made us love them. First learning to use the game is really easy (press forward and your on your way) and the fact that bouncing between the two screens keeps the game interesting. It also does an excellent job of building one skill on another. So the first few levels are a piece of cake, then the next few levels need a bit more skill etc. The beauty of this is that it takes a while to get bored (stuck a few times but never bored). I also like the fact that unlike some DS games where everything is stylus based, most of the game is played using the buttons (regardless of what screen you are on). In fact the only time in game-play when the stylus is used is when you are in a "portal".
Another good thing about the game is that each character has a "special power" that enables them to beat certain obstacles in a level. For example the new character, Blaze the cat, can spin in what looks like burning tornado that enables her to float mid-air for a few seconds. Something that the user will be extremely grateful for.
All in all its a great game. If you liked the other Sonic games you'll like this and for those who have not played I only have two things to say:
1.) Have you been living under a rock!
and 2.) Try it, you just might like it.
