terrain for the intermediate and advanced skier. There is an open boundary policy appealing to the wild side in skiers and allows for solitary skiing through the trees, unmarked trails or steep drop offs to the deep powdery snow. Not forgetting those more interested in a slower more relaxed pace there are plenty of open bowls and groomed trails. Similar to Squaw these resorts offer a number of activities for the children and non-skiers and are oriented to making your stay a great family experience as well as challenging the expert skier.
So you may want even less crowds and not all the fancy restaurants or activities just some basic good old fashion skiing/snowboarding. Then check out either Sugar Bowl or Homewood Resorts. Sugar Bowl first appealed to the Hollywood jetsetters because of the secluded location. But don't let that fool you this secret hide away offers challenging trails attracting some of the worlds expert skiers and racers. Hmm keep your eyes open as you might see the Flying Tomato or Bodie Miller working out for the next Olympics. Homewood a smaller, quiet, secluded family resort offers scenic views of the Lake and Valley on almost all the lifts. The terrain appeals to the intermediate skier with nice groomed trails allowing you to practice your ski skills and get comfortable before hitting the steep downhill's of KT-22 at Squaw.
It's your first time on skies/snowboard and you are a little nervous or you have small children then here are three smaller resorts great for the beginners. Boreal offers about 40 runs or trails, very friendly to beginner and intermediate skiers with only 15% of the trails being advanced. Also, the resort also offers several parks and pipes that can be used by both skiers and snowboarders. Donner Ski Ranch and Tahoe Donner Ski Bowl, the hills are full of beginner skiers! These are great for families as they both offer cheap lift tickets, rentals and a great place to learn to ski. Oh yea did I mention they are both cheap? Expert skiers do not bother with these resorts, as you will be very disappointed unless you're teaching a friend or skiing with the family.
