Las Vegas: the city of lights. Some Americans may go there once in a lifetime and come back with a hole in the pocket. But what happens when the slot machines and card tables are at home, plugged into the wall socket? A once in a lifetime experience turns into mounting debt and substantial damage to a credit score. Online gambling is a problem that many individuals are lured to everyday. A government-funded study stated that 75% of people who gamble online are addicted. But how can you recognize when playing cards and making bets has become something much more serious, and what should you do to stop?
There are a few simple questions that you can ask yourself or a loved one to recognize when online gambling has gotten out of hand.
Have you ever celebrated by gambling online?
Have you ever felt guilty because of gambling?
Have you ever gambled online at work?
Has gambling caused you to be in a financial strain?
If you or someone you know answered yes to any of these questions, then gambling has become an intrusion in someone's life. The effects of gambling become more sever as the addict continues to gamble. This destructive process can be stopped with some dedication and effort.
Positive feedback is always helpful in recovering from an addiction. This positive feedback can often be found in the form of Group therapy. It may sound a little uncomfortable but it can prove to be very beneficent.
Counseling can also be the encouraging reinforcement needed. Seeing an accredited counselor can greatly improve a person's chances of overcoming addiction.
A huge and important step to recovery is eliminating the source of the addiction. For many people, losing internet connection is impossible, but a computer can be programmed to block websites with specific content. The manufacturer of a computer should be able to walk you through the processes to blocking unwanted content on the internet.
The effects of online gambling are serious, and there is a long road to recovery. At the starting point, the healing process may seem impossible, but with will power and the proper resources the end will not be far from sight. You can bet on it!
