"Fabulous!" "Smashing!" "The best ever!" Want to hear these comments after your next party? There are some fairly simple things to do to assure your guests will have a blast the next time you entertain. Follow the 8 tips below to throw a successful and memorable party.
-Allow plenty of time to plan your party. Some experts recommend commencing plans 3 months in advance. Select the best day, date, and time for the party. A weekend party usually brings better attendance.
-The best parties have a theme. Ask yourself, "Why am I having this party?" Is it to celebrate something for someone else? If so, what does the person enjoy? If he/she likes swimming, rent the local pool for a swim party. If he/she always wanted a trip to Hawaii, plan a luau. If you simply want to get together, choose a theme that appeals to you/your partner. After all, if you love the theme, you will enjoy the planning.
-Keep in mind you don't have to be extravagant to have a good party. Establish a budget during your initial planning phase. The party will be more enjoyable if you aren't worried about money.
-Use lists to keep your party planning organized. For example, write out the menu, list decorations, and jot down ideas for games and activities.
-Select activities related to your theme, if possible. Activities can be organized or relaxed. Organized activities include playing trivia games, cards, or the Scene It DVD games. Relaxed activities involve sitting around the fireplace, hanging out on the back porch in comfortable chairs, or people mingling on their own.
-Decorate creatively, using items and ideas reflecting your theme. The more you prepare in advance, the less you will have to do the day of the party. Depending on the decorations you choose, some can be made or displayed a day or two ahead.
-Determine whether you want to have finger foods or a complete meal. Select foods you can prepare the day before or the morning of the party. Be sure to incorporate the party theme into the meal-planning.
-Decide early in the planning process what to wear. Doing so allows for time to pull together an outfit, jewelry, hairdo, and accessories that reflect the party's theme.
So, to throw a smashing party, you've got to start planning early. Pick a theme, set a budget, and use lists to stay organized and focused. Next, decide on games and activities. Choose decorations and foods to serve. Finally, plan what you will wear. Remember, the main focus of the party is to get together with friends and family. Oh, and party on.
