Tankfarm Future Sounds 28th compilation disc centers around 60s pop revivalists. The focal point of this installment is bands who have revamped the rock grooves of T. Rex, the melodic trickles of The Beatles, and the baroque pop cascades of The Yardbirds. Again, Tankfarm Future Sounds covers an international scope of artists in this installment with Perth, Australia's Snowman and Skive, Denmark's Dune. Some of the highlights include the UK's solo artist Jamie T. whose song "Salvador" is a lively rhythmic rumpus of tribal hooks and dynamic whorls, the jangly beats of Houston, Texas' The Midnight Hours whose track "Lay It Down" has a retro rock crispness relatable to early Rolling Stones, and Denmark's Dune whose tune "No Speed" starts off with a prologue spoken in Dutch and melodics with baroque pop swells.
The retro rock intonations of Snowman's "You Are A Casino" have melodic grooves reflective of T. Rex, and the 60s pop stylized psychedelics of Canada's solo artist Vivek Shraya's "Fevered" have emissions liken to The Beatles. The rambling vocals and chillout rhythms of Los Angeles' Dirty Little Secret have a resemblance of The Yardbirds. The indie rock filaments on New York City's White Rabbits number "The Plot" has a Humble Pie crystallization as San Francisco's Magic Bullets tune "Heatstroke" has a mellow indie pop prose and spirited vocals liken to Paul Revere And The Raiders. The retro rock thrusts of Huntington Beach's Venus Infers contrasts the romantic feel of The Mint Chicks and the introspective looms of Athens, Georgia The Whigs. The digital beats and synth pop bedding of San Francisco's The Frail takes the compilation outside of the theme of 60s pop revivalism but still aligns the music with an indie pop regiment.
Tankfarm Future Sounds #28 provides a good overview of what is being made in the indie rock underground. Its middle of the road and a lot of the music is reflective of 60s pop. It makes a statement that the public has a deep attachment to The Beatles and T. Rex and those bands in the underground feel that more of this is what they want to make.
