Astrology: Practical uses and scientific aspects

ASTROLOGY: It's No Pseudo-Science

When astrology first became popular in the 1960s, it gathered to itself a catch phrase, "What's your sign?", that has become the focal point of astrology being deemed less than credible for anything other than fun, party chatter.

If the truth be told, from a historical viewpoint, then it must be said that originally all who studied the stars were astrologers. It must also be stated that astrology and astronomy were once one science.

In present day, astronomy deals only with the distances, magnitudes, masses, compositions, motions, speeds, etc. of stars, planets and more through the observations made with various instruments. That makes astronomy an objective science while astrology is a subjective one.

That brings us to the astrology chart. The creation of an astrology chart, which is based on the exact date, time and place of a person's birth, is an astronomical process using mathematical calculations to find the exact placement of planets and other factors occurring at that person's birth. The process of reading that chart is an astrological one based on the interpretation of those placements and their interactions not only amongst themselves, but with the person for whom the chart was cast.

But that still leaves us with the question, "What possible importance could astrology hold for me?" As we've entered the second millennium, most people would be hard pressed to even tell you their Sun sign. It just holds no meaning for them.

To give it meaning we have to look beyond the solid, concrete forms of our physical existence and world to what makes up our world and ourselves.

In the early part of the twentieth century, Albert Einstein told the world that matter and energy were interchangeable with his E=mc2 formula. It was the beginning of the recognition that our solid world really isn't solid at all. It's all a matter of vibration. Energy, in the form of atoms and molecules, become different forms of matter through their rate of vibration. Through the effects of magnetism and gravity, objects create affects upon one another. A good example of this is our own Moon's affect on the tides of Earth and, even more interesting, the full Moon's affect on various individuals.

Recognizing that everything is energy and that different things can affect a change or reaction upon other things now leads us to the fact that we are energy and we both give and receive the same types of changes and effects in our lives from the day we are born.
