Halloween parties are my all time favorite to throw! Both children and adults get a little scare, eat some great food and enjoy a night with friends! The obvious theme is Halloween and I stick with it. Halloween at my house has become a tradition that all my friends look forward to attending. Halloween at my house includes a haunted walk around our house, great food, maybe a couple games and a trick or treat trail through my neighborhood.
To start with I decorate my house and yard in late September to get the most out of it all, I love it. I have an assortment of masks, ghost, pumpkins, leaves and almost anything fall like that I display. I have a few big dollar things I have collected over the years after Halloween on mark down at Samsclub, look there to save for next year! I buy lots of real pumpkins, orange, yellowish and white. The more variety in shape and color the better. Carve them a day or two before Halloween and fill with sand and a candle. The night of the party arrange some spooky things and people and lead walks of small groups through for a little fright. I have a small house with a small yard and a pool in most of it. I usually have a leave pile with a leave blower hidden underneath, run a cord, easy to hide in the dark to a person sitting scarily still in another area of the yard, when your group passes through, turn on the blower for a couple seconds. Great results. Dead bodies floating in the pool, make one real that jumps out( possible for me in sunny south Florida), then I get the teenage boys in my neighborhood to act in a little murderous scene by the old swing set that involves chainsaws with chain removed for safety but turn em on for fear factor. I usually do the walks in witch costume, barking dogs, blood trails, man with (fake) ax chasing woman through yard or jumps out of bushes. It is all so fun!
Then I make invitations late September or early October. This is fun for me and my two daughters. We just roam around the craft store and put some paper together with ribbon or leaves. It always comes together. It is easy it carry that theme into your party. If it is pumpkins or leaves or vampire teeth. Pick up a few extra and sprinkle in unexpected places, the bathroom, buffet table or candy dish.
The food is never a challenge for a great Halloween party. It should casual and grab and go. Some basics are mini meatballs in a Crockpot. Mix equal parts of honey and Heinz 57 sauce cook all day, fabulous my guest always eat these. Sandwiches
