How improved morale boosts profitability in your organization

From working in several different companies and at least three of the major industries, the number one complaint at all of the companies is morale. Management seems to forget that at some time in their career that they too were the front line workers that had to do all of the actual work.

Once moving up that corporate ladder they forget that the most important thing they wanted when they were a subordinate was information about the actual status of the company. Not some fabricated idea of what they wanted the work force to believe to be true.

Workers only want to be informed about the company's standings on a regular basis because it gives them the feeling that they are actually working toward a goal. These companies that pretend to be doing well and meeting all of their financial needs aren't fooling anyone. If anyone knows the truth about any company's future it's the people doing the actual work. NOT management.

All they do is sit in their offices, attend meetings and conference calls and pretend to be accomplishing something, anything; just as long as they don't have to get involved in the actual work. Now that's not to say that there aren't managers who actually care that the people who work for them are trying to do a really good job for themselves as well as for the better of the company.

Managements' idea of good morale is the work force that doesn't complain to them. But would they listen even if someone actually told them; probably not. They think everything is just fine as long as the work is being done, whatever way it gets done, and they meet their deadlines. If anyone complained, they would probably be disciplined or terminated whichever management felt was most appropriate.

For management, having to hear the truth is more than likely a painful reality that they can't do the job they were hired to do and in many cases that is exactly what the truth is. The only reason they were hired to begin with, many times, is that they were there when the company was short handed and they knew someone who liked them as a person; so they got hired.

There are few things worse for morale than individuals getting promotions that have no idea what is involved in the job to begin with. Individuals, who may or may not, have a minority status getting preferential treatment simply because. And of course, there is always the individuals who complain (but sort of brag) about the fact that they make a certain amount of money; knowing full well that the
