How can you prevent cavities? There are several things you can do to reduce or prevent cavities.
The most important way to prevent is brushing your teeth with a good fluoride toothpaste and using only a soft bristle brush. Soft bristle brushes are better to use than medium or hard bristled brushes because they won't damage your gums and they don't scratch the enamel on your teeth which can lead to cavities.
Flossing helps prevent gum disease from developing and keeps plaque from forming near the base of your teeth.
Stop eating candy and sugary foods as they can cause plaque to form on your teeth. Don't forget to use a good fluoride rinse at-least once a day to protect your teeth.
Basic prevention measures include brushing after meals, eating a proper balanced diet and ensuring that you have enough calcium and vitamin D in your diet. Chewing sugar free gum may help reduce cavities by aiding the spreading of saliva around the teeth which may reduce plaque. Scheduling regular trips to your dentist for preventive care is essential in preventing cavities. Now doesn't that make you smile?
