Respect for my Mother and Father
My mother and father have always been a constant reminder to me about the sorrows and triumphs of the real world. Indeed, I may safely explain that both deserve some degree of equal respect, although both parties in question are not on equal terms. As my father once said "your old days haven't even begun" I now realize that my fresh youthful age of 21 does not compete with over 40 years of experience; if such is the case, then I have an additional 21 years with which to learn on life's lessons.
Both my mom and my dad represent two opposing yet complimentary values: the confidence of success and the skepticism of worth. One is not workable without the other, for the two depends on each other's functions to operate a fully competent whole. For instance, my mother schemed her way to financial security on the basis of trust and alternative thinking while my father sealed his position on the concept of conventional hard labor and a narrow-minded approach to life. On the positive side, my mother engrossed the family with faith on the self and the lord while my father never under minded the basic value of self-sacrifice and hard work. Unfortunately, both positives brought with them disastrous consequences. My mother was coned into over $500,000 in debt and my father, bent on loosening himself from the sheer boredom of strict labor, channeled his mind into alcohol and drugs. In the long run both of them lost.
Now where is their respect? In their attempts at success-that is all. Our family is better off than we were over two years ago, but we still have some ways to go before we are completely secured. My hopes is that my mother (for my father has disappeared off the face of the earth)will learn from her mistakes and attempt to forge radical plans the right way-through hard work and a recognition that there is no such thing as easy money! As for myself, my plans are to seek a career in the fields of multimedia and literature. By combining computer science with the art of storyline I hope my hard work and college education lead me and my family to a better and brighter future. And that determination is firmly bounded on my respect for my mother and father.
