Human rights will be an issue that people fight for as long as people deem it just to subject other people to varying degrees of respect depending on certain situations. By such a general phrase-"certain situations"- I am referring to many social circumstances that portions of society have grown to deem worthy of attention, such as race, sexual orientation, and financial well-being or lack thereof. By such a general statement, I am attempting to emulate the manner in which so many of society's differences, which I feel are beautiful, are generalized and stereotyped. The fact that stereotypes are not seen as outdated, yet feminism is questioned allows us a glimpse at the ignorance that we are supposedly overcoming. Feminism, a movement that is for all of humanity, will never grow old.
There is an idea that feminism is a movement where women hate men and consider themselves better than their male counterparts. This is not what feminism is about. Feminism is about gaining human rights for women, rights equal to those of men, yes. However, it is much more than that. Feminism is about finding yourself, as a woman, and being proud of who you are, a fact that people who disagree with the validity of feminism fail to recognize. A feminist is one who sees women as worthy of attention, of accolades, of pay equal to that of men; a feminist is able to support her views with facts, which separates such a person from a fanatic.
The fact that feminism is misunderstood allows people to feel that it is no longer worthy of attention.
Women, the creators of life, are lower class citizens in so many parts of the world. Despite such a fact, we continue to create life, without finding time for ourselves. Has not such injustice grown old? Has not it grown trite to claim that men are superior to women? Is is not outdated to pay women less than men?
One may argue that yes, such action, such thinking is outdated, yet such action, such thinking is still very popular. Therefore, it is actually very modern. If such detrimental action, such detrimental thinking is still alive, with such quiet protests that accompany them, then feminism, in its true form, cannot possibly be outdated.
I argue that it will never be a lost cause to proclaim who you are with pride as feminism does. It will never be primitive to voice your opinions, just as people do everyday, and as feminism teaches our daughters that it is outstanding to make a practice of. Feminism, a movement, full of all types of people, women and men alike, is a way of life that is an attempt to create more peace in a world that claims to value such, but whose behavior points in an opposite direction.
Feminism is eternal.
