Poetry: Swimming

by AnzliD

There is a correct way to wade into the pool,

a correct portion of your bathing suit we allow to get wet

for each elapsed time given to the sun

to experience enough of that baking of shoulders...

before we submerge our heads.

wouldn't it be nice if we could breathe underwater

then we wouldn't have to come up for air...

later there is laughter rippling to our ears

wind, billowy clouds, conversations about dear nothings -

each others' years, hobbies, friends.

we are drinking from tall glasses filled with lemonade

cake untouched
