Chains of immense mountain tops
border the scene of the largest freshwater lake
west of the Mississippi
Looking as vast as an ocean
or the Puget Sound today
but I remember it is just a mountain lake
and what remains of what used to be
a gigantic glacial lake.
water so warm for a mountain lake
I dive in one evening for a swim.
Basking in the warmth
I backfloat lazily
looking up towards the sky
when I see what looks like a small storm
brewing on the horizon.
Warned by my body's own storm tracking
and weather systems
driven by the moon's
affect on the tides
I can see lightning about to form.
Striking inside my womb
The energy of creation
present in that storm
didn't scare me out of the warmth
I kept swimming in the lake
hoping for a little more fun.
However, I knew I had to
get out soon
dry off
and go home.
Sensing the storm
yet
reveling in the calm before the storm
never felt better.
Have you ever swam in a mountain lake
during that blissful calm
before a storm?
Seeing all of the beauty and
changes about to occur
because of the storm.
Keeping in mind that
there is always a calm
after the storm
I look forward to watching
waves crash on the shore
after my evening swim
in a lake so warm
Then after the storm has passed,
hearing the winds die down.
