My first love had hair of gold. Her eye's were of diamonds and hair as fair as the wind. It was a cold winters day when I first laid a glance at her. It was merely a second and that was enough. That day I fell in love on vine street. Alice O'Connell was her name. But she did not know me from a bundle of chains. I tried everything to get her attention.
On one Monday after school let out, The city was as white as the North Pole. All that was missing was a few glaciers and an Igloo. However, plenty of snow for the tossing. I rolled a fat snow ball in a my hand and when I saw Alice turn the corner I tossed it at her head. She did not like it to much. And contrary to what I thought would happen, she left without asking my name.
Tuesday came and the snow was still here. I had another Idea. I waited patiently behind a bush for her. There she appeared, as beautiful as ever. She passed the bush, I hoped out and "Raahhh". She jumped and screamed, kicked and whaled and ran like a bat out of hell. She still did not ask my name.
On Wednesday after class I sat at my desk and thought long and hard. What the heck am I doing wrong. Why won't she talk to me. Then, Mr. Wilson came over to where I was sitting. "Hey there Mr. Kidd, why the ugly face?" he asked. "Honestly Mr. Wilson. I like this girl.Though I have tried getting her attention, she just keeps running away" said Mr. Kidd. "What have you done?" he responded curiously. "I threw a snow ball at her. I even jumped out from behind a bush." "Ha-ha" laughed Mr. Wilson. "No, no. That is all wrong kid. You have to woo her." "What the heck is a woo Mr. Wilson?"
After Mr. Wilson explained the art of wooing. I quickly ran off to the closest florist. I didn't have my own money, but Mr. Wilson was kind enough to lend me some. I brought a half dozen roses then walked to Alice's street. I waited on a set of steps that she always passed on her way home from school. I know because I have watched her every move for the past week. Do not make accusations, I am only sick with love.
So I waited, and waited and nothing. I finally got up and started to walk back to my house. Then, from out of no where. Someone sneaks up behind me, pushes me to the ground, than pushes my face into the snow. When I turned over, still on my back, I seen that the culprit was non other then Alice O'Connell. I raised the crushed roses to her and said "These are for you my lady". "Aw Johnny, this is the nicest thing you ever done for me." She then blew me a kiss and went on her way.
How the heck she knew my name I'll never know. After the school year, she moved away, and I never saw her again. But that's the story of Alice O'Connell, my first love.
