It's an indescribable feeling to even think about it. It's like being on cloud nine and realizing that nothing is impossible in this structured world of practicalities. Simply, we are what we dream to be.
When I was only a primary school student in my younger days, my school teacher asked my class what we wanted to be when we grew up. At that time, I realised just how little I knew about my dreams and ambitions, nor even my own hobbies and interests that I'd like to pursue as a career. That incident struck me, and it started to get the ball rolling.
Since that day, I have never looked back on my aspirations and regretted doing the things I have done. From dreaming to become a Manager (whatever role it is) to an Astronomer, to a Marine Biologist, to a Psychologist, a Counsellor, a Doctor, a Forensic Scientist, a Forensic Psychologist, a Detective, a Private Investigator, a Biomedical Scientist specializing in cancer research, and switching eventually to becoming a Freelance writer, to a Freelance Hollywood Screenwriter and finally to dream of being a Pilot, I have tried every means and ways to go the extra mile to discover that deep passion in me that will ultimately see me through my old age and even on my death bed.
All I know is that I have a genuine interest in the Medical Sciences and in writing. However, caught in between the two evils of practicality, my Diploma grades were only a few decimal points short of an entry requirement for a Life Science degree at local universities in Singapore, and writing for a living certainly wasn't going to be a long term plan if I must be responsible for my own survival in this real world of inflation rates and government taxes.
To obtain a foreign university degree in the States, UK or Australia was music to my ears, but unfortunately I do not have the moolah to see me through the costly education. It was then that I realised just how important material things can be sometimes. Yes, money can't buy love, but it can certainly buy one's passion that will last a lifetime.
Having taken the tougher route to pursue my dream job, I have taken up an unfulfilling full time admin job in an insurance company, working my ass off from 8am to 8pm every day to earn a stable income while doing sidelines as a Freelance writer and Screenwriter to earn extra income. Next on my list would be in giving private tuition to secondary and primary school students to boost my income potential so that I can quickly embark on my dream career plans!
In case you are wondering what this dream job would be, it really depends on my future opportunities. To me, a dream job is something that one will enjoy and excel in without having to try too hard. Just like love can't be forced, I feel that passion cannot be forced too. I guess at this point in time, all I need is renewed inspiration. With it, I can fulfil my dream of becoming a full-fledged Immunologist working my way to finding a cure in AIDS and hopefully cancer. Otherwise, I will be delighting myself in life's simple pleasures 20,000km above from ground zero, which is a career like no any other, and where not many will ever get a chance to fulfil in their lifetime. And that is to become a Commercial Pilot, my treasured dream job.
