Summer mountains are a treasure to behold. The mountains are awake and alive for only a few short months each year. Nothing compares to nature's garden on a short leash like a mountain. It is a miracle to see a stream that has literally stood frozen for months, percolating across smooth rocks. Vegetation that is so green it hurts your eyes for it only has a short time to play before going to sleep for the winter.
Although I develop seaside resorts in Mexico, I still prefer to return home to my mountains in Northwest Montana in the summer. The crisp air, dew in the morning, deer and clear water calls to me begging me to return. The beach is a treasure reserved for the winter months when my beautiful mountains are covered in their white blanket of snow, sleeping.
August is my favorite mountain month. The wildlife is out in force, fattening up for the winter. You can drive less than 30 minutes from any town and be alone to pitch a tent in your own remote corner of heaven. Firewood is plentiful. Fishing is awesome and the peace of the earth can be felt in your bones.
There is a rare treat that hides in the mountains of the Northwest called a huckleberry. The adventure lies in finding your own patch without bears. Your blue fingers are the ribbon and popping a fat sun warmed berry into your mouth is the trophy. If any of the little morsels make it back to the camp site, you just can't beat a huckleberry pancake.
Day hikes into hidden lakes, fly fishing in a glacier fed stream and the warm sun shining through the pines are only available in the summer in the mountains. It is a treasure to behold and an honor to be graced by such beauty.
