Yes. But with conditions.
Despite the MFN status and the boon to their economy the US is, the Chinese government still sees us as an enemy.
Why do we do business with someone that sees us as an enemy?
I understand the economic considerations if we take them of MFN status, but frankly they don't wash with me.
In essence, what the people are saying who have written "yes" here is that NOT continuing MFN status would cause us hardships.
In short, "It's easier to continue doing business with them"
That's weak..and cowardly.
It's like negotiating with terrorists. The more you give, the more they'll take. There is no appeasement.
Tell them flat out that we believe PEOPLE have the power not governments, and that we choose to do business only with other countries that empower their people.
Make them decide what is more important, the American dollar or their lust for power.
Sure, if we stop trading with them we'll feel a hit, and so may some others.
But what would it do to them?
It's our dollars that prop up their dictatorship.
Without us, the Chinese economy would fail.
This will cause hardship for the Chinese citizens.
Good.
Then maybe they will do something about it.
So yes, we should continue MFN status, but only if China agrees to become a partner and a free society and not just a leech.
Communism has failed everywhere it has been tried, except in China.
That's only because American dollars prop it up.
It's time to let it fail in China too.
